We almost didn't find a camp site!

We spent today calling and driving around looking for a campsite in the Savannah area.  They are all full.  You would think it was summer and school was out. We wound up with a site in Charleston, SC and will go there first.

We had hoped to get a site at the state park but it was full.  We ate KFC at a picnic table in the day use area. It was very beautiful with the moss in the trees.

I fixed spaghetti and salad tonight. It was very good, if I can so myself.  Libbie brought over the garlic bread and lemon ice box pie.  YUM

Tomorrow Libbie and I are doing a little shopping and restocking the pantry.  We will move to our new site in Charleston on Friday.  I don't even know the name of the park at this time.  LOL
I will post pics and name tomorrow, its late and I'm about to fall asleep and drop the laptop.

Savannah is near!

We are in Metter, Ga.  It's 50 miles from Savannah.  We don't have reservations in Savannah so we stopped here and we are going to drive the car into Savannah tomorrow and look at some campgrounds and decide.

(Just Buddy being Buddy while at a rest stop)

Today we are at Beaver Run RV Park.  It's a pretty place with a pond to fish in for the guys.  It is full of pine trees (not my favorite) and so we can't get satellite reception.  We did hook up to their cable but haven't used it anyway.

The owners showed us to our site and our neighbor came out putting his coat on to talk the entire time Doug set up.  LOL  Then the owner came back with fresh baked cookies for us.  yum  that was nice.

We cooked at the motorhome again tonight.  This is getting to be a habit.  Don't hold your breath though cause there are lots of places in Savannah I want to eat at.

The weather has turned cold and its still raining off and on.  I hope that it clears off tomorrow for our trip into Savannah.

Columbus, GA was as far as we made it

We thought the rain had lightened up so we left out around 11:00.  Our goal was Columbus, GA if the weather didn't clear up and Macon, GA. if it did.
Buddy  is about to get the hang of this traveling stuff!  This is what he did all day.

We crossed the Alabama River.  I didn't even know there was an Alabama River.    It would rain, stop, rain stop, all day.  Around 4:00 (we crossed the time zone and lost an hour) we pulled into Lake Pine RV Park and campground.
At first I thought Doug had pulled onto someones private property.  There is a real nice pond on the other side of the drive.  I couldn't get a picture of it. Maybe tomorrow.  After we got checked in Doug and Jim went fishing there and caught 7 fish total.  Some were small so they threw them all back.
This was the office.  We pulled in and the guys went to check in while we took the dogs for a pee break.
Everything in this area has already bloomed out.  I was admiring the pretty azaleas when Buddy came up and peed on them right as I took the picture.  That's a boy for you.

This pretty little chapel is here on the campground.  This is a very pretty site for a wedding.
This cabin looks like it might be the honeymoon suite.  It's very pretty and all done in white.
This gazebo was next to the chapel.  The grounds were very nicely manicured.
This is our site.  As you can see it was still raining.  The rates were only $18.00 with Passport America 50% discount.  You can use PA for two nights.
We have cooked at the campsite every night since we left.  This is a record.  Tonight we decided to eat out.  Since the guys didn't keep any fish, the owner of the campground recommended Ezell's.  Notice the sign, catfish tremble when they hear our name.
The food was very good.  The guys had the catfish and Libbie and I had the combo fish and shrimp.
We were too hungry to think about pictures when we had food.  After we were full we decided to go ahead and take a few.
This wooden canoe was in the restaurant.  The pictures just don't do it justice.  It was beautiful.  The workmanship on this canoe was amazing.  It was about  10 ft long.
We are back at the rv park listening again to the rain.  I don't know what we will do tomorrow.  If the weather is not too bad we will move on down the road.  If it is, there are some things we could do and see around here.  I don't know how far Plains, GA. is from here.  Jimmy Carter's peanut farm is there.  Well it's something...

Decisions go or stay another day

We are still here in Montgomery, Al. watching the weather.  Do we leave and hopefully stay ahead of it or move on and hopefully get settled in before it reaches us?  That is our question for this morning. We spent a quiet day yesterday just resting and the guys did some fishing.

Doug caught 2 brim and 1 small bass.  None were keepers.  He had fun until he stepped in the ant hills.  LOL  Jim didn't step in any ant hills but he didn't catch any fish.  Maybe that's why, he didn't suffer enough.  I think I might have gone with Jim on this one.

The guys just had a meeting of the minds and we are going to wait out the storm here.  We will let it blow over and enjoy another day of rest.  Tomorrow we will be Macon, Ga. bound.  Let's see what today brings.

Selma Alabama to Montgomery

Jim found a new fuel filter and luckily it did the trick.  No more problems.  We left out this morning and headed for Montgomery, Al.
This was our drive thru Selma.  This is the old main street.
They were having something on the square.
This was a fast click as we were driving thru town.  There were lots of big old homes.  I would like to have gone in some of them.
We stopped for the night in Montgomery, Ala. at The Woods RV Park and Campground.  They are having a Motorcycle and Music Festival this weekend.  There are Harleys everywhere and bands playing until midnight tonight.  I am laying in bed typing this listening to everything from Charlie Rich to Prince music.  If you don't like the band that is playing now there will be a different one in about an hour.   They have all been really good bands playing some good music.  There are booths set up with concessions, everything from BBQ to the Lady Chicken headbands.  LOL  I will have to go over and look at that tomorrow.
Jim and Doug set outside listening to the bands and looking at something funny on the ipad.
I don't know what it was, but it must have been real funny.
Some folks riding around the campgrounds having a good time.
We are going to spend two nights here so the guys can fish and we can get some down time.  I don't like these long driving days... 250 miles today... too too much

First stop Canton, Ms.

We left this morning around 10:00.  Jim and Libby joined us just north of Lake Village, Ar.  Unfortunately they were having some engine problems.  Jim thought it was a new fuel filter he had installed and changed it out at our stop.  At first things seemed to be going ok but as he got down the road a ways and had to climb a hill, the problem on no power returned.  We stopped for the night in Canton, Ms. which is north of Jackson, Ms.  Jim is looking for a mobile diesel mechanic.  He is hoping its just bad diesel but he needs to get this fixed and sooner the better.

We are stopped at Movietime RV Park.  This is a Good Sam park and the rates are $26.95 a night with discount $24.08.  The park is full at this time, we got the last 2 spots.  When you are making an unscheduled stop you take what you can get.  We had hoped to stop at Goshen Springs RV resort but because of the recent bad weather, most of the rv park is underwater at this time.  The guys had hoped to get some fishing in today but again... you take what you get.

The plans for tomorrow are to get Jim's motorhome fixed and go from there.  Our bad luck for today was a rock hit the windshield and left a big nasty spider shaped crack.  Hopefully we can get that fixed while we are stopped.

Libbie and I actually cooked supper tonight.  Write that on the calendar, we don't do this often but we are going to try to on this trip.  We had tacos, refried beans with cheese on top, guacumole and egg custard pie!  It was nothing fancy but it sure was good.

  Later folks!

Hail!

Started loading the motorhome today.  I am being optimistic about Doug's eye and us being able to leave on Friday.  We had to run back to the house when we took a load out to the motorhome.  It started to rain.  Then it started hailing!  It was only pea sized but it was coming down hard.  That ended loading the motorhome.  When it did finally stop it was a mess out there.  After the hail it came a gulley-washer!  We have a couple of ponds in our yard now!... Hope this ground firms up by friday.
The white dots are hail.  Not big but this picture was taken when it just started, a lot more fell.
Hopefully we will finish loading her tomorrow and there will be no rain or hail!  Buddy must be ready to go, he followed us out there everytime we went the last two days. That is so different from the last time we took him.  He is turning into a traveling dog.  When we first rescued Buddy he was afraid of everything.  He didn't want to get in the vehicle or come in the house.  Now he is spoiled rotten as all dogs should be.  If your looking for a good friend and companion, rescue one at your nearest animal control or humane society.

Buddy resting.... what he does best!  lol

Plans change again...

Yesterday Doug's eye started bothering him.  This is the eye that he had the cornea transplant on a few years back.  Lately he has been battling a virus that keeps coming back in it, causing scar tissue to form.  It was the scar tissue that we could see as a white spot that cause our concern.  When we got to the doctor this morning he told us that he wasn't concerned about the scar tissue but that there were capillaries growing into his cornea.  This is of concern because the more blood vessels in the eye the more chance for a rejection of the cornea.  He put him back on medication and wants to see him on thursday.  IF he hasn't had any further growth, the doctor will take a picture of his eye for Doug to take with us.  Doug will need to see an ophthalmologist in two weeks.  At that time the doctor will look at his eye and compare it to the picture to make sure there is no more growth, thus rejection.  Right now the plan is to leave on Friday.  Let's hope that nothing goes wrong again and the weather cooperates.

I think it was a funnel cloud!

We had some rough weather last night and this morning when we got up and looked outside we knew we had our list for the day.
It's hard to see but there are limbs everywhere.  The front yard, the back yard and the sides all looked the same.  But we were the lucky ones of the neighborhood.  The weathermen had been telling us all day to be on the look out for bad weather.  Well it arrived around 1:00 a.m.  The roar of the wind really did sound like a freight train.  I have never heard wind blow that hard.  We had a rug drying on a large cracker barrel type rocker on the back porch.  A 5x7 heavy rug.  It was draped over the rocker to dry. (dog and threw up on it)  Well it turned that big rocker upside down.  The porch was a mess. Still we didn't have any damage.  Just a lot of mess.
This is what is left of a gazebo that my neighbor had tied down to concrete blocks (4 big heavy ones on each corner).  It picked it up and twisted it in a knot.  I don't know where the cover is.
Here is one of the trees that broke and fell on a neighbors house.  Slight damage on the roof.

This neighbor wasn't as lucky.  This huge pine tree uprooted and fell on the house.  Limbs broke through the roof and into the living room.   A lot of structural damage on this one.  And its for sale.  LOL
This big oak tree was twisted and splintered.  We believe it was hit by lightning before the winds took it down. This was a very large tree.
Here they are cutting that big pine tree up and lifting it off the house.
Glad no one was injured. Well maybe Doug and I from walking around picking up tree limbs.  I am going to bed now.  I didn't sleep a wink last night and my body is telling me its time to sleep

Plans are in the making and work is being done

I have been slack in writing in the blog.  We have been home working on the house.  We have remodeled the master bathroom.  We replaced our tub with a shower and I love it!  Why didn't I do this years ago.  I never take a bath and love having this easy in and out shower.  We put a new floor down and painted the walls and got a new toliet.. I love the change!

Doug is putting in the new toliet here.
Then the washing machine went out and we had to replace it.  Might as well get a matching dryer!
Then the microwave went out... Had to get another one
I hope that everything is finished crashing around here.  Now we are making plans to leave and head to Savannah, Ga., Charleston, S.C and then lets just cover Florida!  right now the go date is April 6.  We are finishing up our last project (for now).  We are putting new cabinets above the washer/dryer.  They are painted now and ready to install.  Hopefully tomorrow they will go up... If so I will add a pic when done.

We are in Amarillo again

We left Arkansas on Wednesday heading towards Amarillo.  When we left it was in the 50's nice weather and nothing in the forecast.  By the time we got to Oklahoma City it was raining and 39 degrees, with the temperature dropping fast.  By the time we were leaving OK. city it was 31 and snowing.  We were in a blizzard.

The weather stayed that way until we reached Clinton, Ok.  The snow stopped and the temp started rising.  When we reached Amarillo it was 50 with clear skies.  The weather here is crazy.  70's one day and 20's the next.

Brian and Lori left saturday for their babymoon in Las Vegas.  We are just enjoying being grandparents to Ashlynn.
