Snow in Arkansas

We don't get snow very often in south Arkansas, so it doesn't take much to send people in a frenzy.
I ran to the store to buy a loaf of bread.  I got the very last loaf on the shelf.  I told you people went crazy when you say snow around here.  Now to my friends up north, the 4 inches that we got would be a dusting, but here it was a blizzard.  I must admit it was very pretty.  The picture above is looking out my back door into the pasture.
When I looked out early this morning, just after sunrise, my little flag was frozen solid.  We had freezing rain before it turned into snow.

When the wind blew, this little flag just swung back and forth like a door.  It looked funny, but it didn't take long in the wind for the ice to break up and let it ripple in the wind.

Do you see the little Titmouse?
Using my telephoto lens I got a picture of my neighbor walking through her property putting up little bird feeders.
It was very pretty but by noon the sun started to shine and it started to melt.  The streets and driveways cleared off first.
Of course, Buddy had to get outside and play in the snow and now water.
He didn't stay out long, he doesn't like to get cold.  This boy is spoiled!
As the snowman on my door says, " Baby, it's cold outside!

It's so quiet here, nothing to do but cook

With no grand babies running around playing, it sure is quiet here at home.  We haven't done much, so I think I will tell you about my new kitchen toy I got for Christmas.  I got an Instant Pot Pressure Cooker.  I love it.  It's not just a pressure cooker, it is also a rice cooker, slow cooker, yogurt maker, and sauté pan.

This thing is wonderful!  All you need is minutes and dinner is done.  I have cooked a pork loin, whole chicken, chicken wings, roast and potatoes , baked potatoes, mashed potatoes and ham.  All were great.  The chicken wings were even frozen and all it took was 15 min. and they were so juicy and tender.  I joined the facebook page for Instant Pot and the posts on there have taught me a lot about what I can do with this pot.  There are some wonderful recipes on here too.  For someone that had just about quit cooking, I have really had fun with this thing.  I even made chili in it.  Everyone posts that the best mac n cheese is made in this pot.  I haven't tried it yet.  You can even make home made yogurt.  That sounds like too much work for me.  Tomorrow I am making unstuffed cabbage rolls in the pot. Yum
I can't  believe all the things people are cooking in this pot.
Everything from boiled eggs.  (They say the shells just fall off)

To CHEESECAKE!

I took these pictures off the FB page.  Even if you don't have or want a pressure cooker; but you like to cook, there are some wonderful recipes on this page.
Well now I guess you see how boring it is around here right now.  All I have to talk about is cooking. LOL  At least I am having fun.

On the Road again!

The dreaded day has finally arrived.  It is time for us to leave and head home.  I sure am going to miss my grandchildren.  It is so hard to leave them.  It will be February before I see my youngest grandchild.  It gets harder and harder to leave them.  The peace and quiet is almost deafening.
We almost didn't leave today.  I was sick last night and Doug was sick all day today.  In fact, I had to drive over 100 miles today because he couldn't stay out of the bathroom. ( I know, TMI)  We found out our granddaughter left school today sick too!  Her mom isn't feeling to well either.  Doesn't sound to good to me.
We decided to stop for the night at the Grand Casino outside of Oklahoma City, OK.
They have a small RV park on the parking lot.  It's nothing fancy but it has water and electricity and they do have a dump station.  You use to could stay up to 3 nights free but they had to start charging because they had squatters that decided free was good and wouldn't leave.  Now it is $50 a night to stay.  Way too much for what you get.  But, we got to stay free!  Lucky for me the manager came in when the girl was trying to figure out how to charge me and he said," just one night, you can stay free".  Works for me!!!  Doug is feeling better so we will continue homeward bound tomorrow.

Happy New Year!

Lori cooked a wonderful New Years meal of cornbread, pork, black eyed peas with turnip greens and mac and cheese for the granddaughter.  Hopefully we will have good health, wealth and luck for the new year.
We wind up our stay here and leave on Monday.  It will be hard to go but we haven't been home since the end of August.  I guess it's time to go see how things are at the old home place.   But it sure will be hard to leave those grand kids!
