Galveston, Tx

We made a quick trip down to Galveston, Tx. this weekend.  They are gearing up for Mardi Gras.

We checked into The Tremont House since this was a short trip.  It was really very nice and beautifully restored.  They say it's haunted.  I didn't see any ghosts but I did have some weird dreams.

We met up with cousin Bill and Camie for lunch and they took us on a tour of the city after lunch.

Looks like I am trying to strangle Doug, I'm not, but I almost pulled him over backwards.  LOL

 Some of the beautiful homes in town.  If you look closely, the one on top has  a carved wooden bird statue.  The wood is from trees that were destroyed after a hurrican years ago.  Instead of cutting the broken tree down, several of the residents had carvings made from them.

this is called the Bishop's Palace.  It is too big to get into one picture when you are standing on the corner.  You can tour this beautiful palace.

The vendors were setting up in the street for the weekends celebration.  The parades started at 7:00 and it cost $44 a couple to stand in the street to watch it. It's a major fundraiser.

We had a good time and enjoyed some good food and fellowship with family and friends of friends.
